John Nunez, Jr.

April 10, 1964 — October 19, 2021

John Nunez, Jr., 57, of Vinton passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, in a local hospital.

John worked for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve since 1999. He began as security guard with the Texas location, working his way up to a control room operator. In 2012 he transferred to the Hackberry location. He loved fishing and hunting, especially deer hunting, and he was a member of LRG Hunting Club in Singer. To John, his family was everything and he cherished time spent with them. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, even during his illness; but most of all for being a loving and caring man who would do anything for anyone.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 21 years, Melissa Nunez; four children, Marixa Gutierrez (Antonio) of Sulphur, Jeffrey Nunez (Adrienne Hall) of Sulphur; Krista Purvis (Matt) of Texas; Kaitlyn Nunez (Steven Schexnayder) of Sulphur; nine grandchildren, Joanna, Jasmine, Lacy-Ann, Pajie, Andrew, Gracie, Caleb, Weston, Joseph, and one more on the way. He will also be greatly missed by his parents, John Nunez, Sr. and Josephine Nunez of Clute, TX; sisters, Diane Nunez (Theresa Olachia), and Jo Ann Nunez (Charlene Johns); father and mother-in-law, John Thomas, Jr. and Evaughn Thomas of DeRidder; and numerous extended family members.

Funeral Services will be held at 11am, Monday, October 25, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Carlyss under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the church, 4:30 pm – 9pm, Sunday, October 24, 2021, and resume 8am Monday until time of Service.  Bro. James McCartney will officiate.
