John Paul Barnes

John Paul Barnes, 60, passed away Monday, April 18, 2022, in his residence.

John was a graduate of Sulphur High School class of 1980. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from McNeese State University. During his career he worked for several local hospitals until his retirement.  He was currently employed by Calcasieu Parish School Board as a bus driver.  John was always active in Boy Scouts of America; he was an Eagle Scout and a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, he also had served as a Scout Master, and a camp director at Camp Edgewood. John loved fishing and attending flea markets for “projects” to work on. He loved baseball and coached for several years.  John will be remembered for his loving nature, strong work ethic and his desire for perfectionism in all that he did.

He leaves to cherish his memory a son, John Charles Barnes and wife, Sidney, of Moss Bluff; mother, Molly Barnes of Sulphur; siblings, Connie Barnes and husband Gary of Sulphur, Scott Barnes and wife, Dawna, of Moss Bluff, Robert Barnes of Sulphur, and Kristi Heurtevant and husband, Marc, of Sulphur. He will also be greatly missed by his eight nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his father, Ned Barnes, and nephew, Paul Barnes.

Funeral services honoring John’s life will be held at 2pm, Saturday, April 30, 2022, in Johnson & Robison Funeral Home of Sulphur. Burial will follow at Dutch Cove Cemetery of Carlyss. Visitation will be held in the funeral home 10 am – 2pm on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
