John Paul Moore, J.P or Brother John', 71, of Lake Charles, LA died at 3:00 AM on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in his residence.
Mr. Moore was born January 13, 1941 in Roanoke, VA and was a 1959 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School in Salem, VC. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving with the 5th Special Forces Unit Green Berets. He also was a graduate of McNeese State University with his BA degree in Economics and a BS in Pre-Med. He worked at City Service PCD Lab as an Analyst and at Conoco Phillips in the Sour Crude Unit. Mr. Moore served as an usher at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, where he was a very active member. He was involved in several church ministries, including the prison ministries, the Gideons, and RTF. He loved the wilderness, hunting, camping, and adventure and will always be remembered for his storytelling.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Nyhlia Newsome Moore of Lake Charles; children, Maureen Joyce and husband Ben Bell of Baton Rouge, LA, Chaffin Florice and wife Christal of Tallulah, LA, and David E. Moore; siblings, Drew Moore of Cape Coral, FL, Dave Moore and wife Betty of Virginia Beach, VA, and Munsey Moore and wife Linda of Chase City, VA; and grandchildren, Louis and Sophia Mouk and Alana and Rachel Florice.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Munsey and Bernice Thompson Moore; brother, Thomas Lee Moore; and his grandfather who raised him, D. E. Moore.
His funeral will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Gary Evers and Lewis Jackson will officiate. Burial will follow in Crowne Point Cemetery in Sulphur. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
