John "Richard" Ogea, Sr.

October 24, 1935 — February 7, 2015

John Richard Ogea, Sr., 79, of Lake Charles, died Saturday February 7, 2015 at a Houston, Texas hospital following a brief illness. Richard was a native and a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He was a 1963 graduate of McNeese State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. He retired in 1997 after 32 years of service to PPG/Axial as an operator. Richard was a devoted member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and enjoyed woodworking, gardening and dancing. Preceding Richard in death are his parents, Simeon and Victoria Nelson Ogea and beloved wife of 49 years, Clara Joycelyn Daigle Ogea. Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his son, John R. Ogea, Jr., DeQuincy; daughters, Patricia Ann Ogea, Missouri City, TX; Sharon Ruth Mendoza and husband Lupe, Jr., Katy, TX, and Lucinda Marie Page and husband Wesley, Jr., Denham Springs; grandchildren, Colton Darbonne, Justin Mendoza, Victoria Page, Catherine Page, and Kaylee Ogea; dance partner and companion, Barbara Landry, Sulphur; two brothers, James Ogea, Lake Charles, Thomas H. Ogea, Carlyss; five sisters, Betty Moore, Mary Anne Grissom, Helen Hedrich and Squeaky Doucet, all of Lake Charles and Alice Sonnier, Carlyss; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Visitation will be on Tuesday February 10, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church with Father Alan Trouille serving as Celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Sallier Cemetery The family requests memorials to be made to Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church building fund.
