John R. "Ricky" Thompson, 70, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away Thursday October 16, 2014 in a local healthcare facility. Mr. Thompson was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles, LA. He worked for Borden's Milk Company for many years. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church where he was a Lay Mister of Communion, Pastoral Care at Memorial Hospital and also Communion of shut-in. He was a member of Past Grand Knight of St. Margaret Knights of Columbus Council 3208 where he served as Grand Knight from 1998 until 1999. He was a member and a Past Faithful Navigator of Msgr. H. Cramers Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus where he was Faithful Navigator from 2003 through 2004. Mr. Thompson was currently a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He will be greatly missed and always remembered for his sense of humor. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Susan Kelley of Lake Charles; one brother Mr. W.L. (Larry) Thompson Jr. of Covington LA; children, Keith, Christine and Becky Thompson; friends and his brotherhood of Knights. He was preceded in death by his wife, love of his life, Helen Webb Thompson; father, William L. Thompson; mother and step-father, Harriet Broussard Cooper and Newt Cooper and sister, Eva Marie Cooper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Monday, October 20, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Very Reverend Anthony Fontenot will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Monday will be from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM in the funeral home. Mr. Thompson's family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Abu Shamat and the nurses and staff of Fresenius Medical Care and Harbor Hospice House for their kindness, compassion and excellence in care.
