John Royall Palmore

John Royall Palmore, 76, of Lake Charles died on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in a Richmond, VA cancer hospital. Mr. Palmore was born on May 22, 1937 in Powhatan, VA. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Chennault Air Force Base. Following his Honorable Discharge, he resided here and began his 33 year long career at Citgo until his retirement. Mr. Palmore and his wife presently took up dual residency in Lake Charles and Powhatan, VA. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church for the past 53 years where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for over 20 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and nature. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Carolyn A. Palmore; children, Cynthia Cisneros (Jorgé) of Texas and Jonathan R. Palmore of Fort Drum, NY; a brother, Douglas G. Palmore of Powhatan, VA; three granddaughters, Cristin Gilbert, Hannah O'Neil, and Allison Ardoin; three great grandchildren, Ashlyn Lee, Hayden Alexander, and Dillon O'Neil; a niece, Lelia Hernandez of Troy, VA; and a nephew, Douglas R. Palmore of Richmond, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Palmore and twin sons, Chris and Craig. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. The Rev. Bill Miller will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM and a scripture service being held at 7:30 PM. The gathering will continue in the funeral home on Saturday from 8:00 AM until leaving for the church at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Katharine Drexel Estate, Belmead, 5000 Cartersville Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.
