John Roy Schexnider, 91, of Lake Charles, LA died on Saturday, August 2, 2014 in his residence. Mr. Schexnider was born on June 5, 1923 in Vermillion Parish and was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He worked for Citgo as a boilermaker for 33 years before becoming a supervisor for the last five years of his career, retiring in 1981. Mr. Schexnider was a devoted and faithful member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God since 1947 where he was a deacon for 25 years. He was also a faithful supporter of a national Christian and Jewish organization that assisted Jews in returning to their homeland from Russia. He was known as being a jack of all trades and was loved by many. Mr. Schexnider was a wonderful father and provider for his family. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sharon Kay Corkran of Lake Charles; a son, Wayne Stanley Schexnider of Brawley, CA; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Martha Lenora Brown Schexnider; his parents, Noah and Adele Schexnider; two brothers, T.J. and Clyde Schexnider; a sister, Hazel Touchet; an infant daughter; and infant grandson; and infant great granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Glad Tidings Assembly of God. The Rev. Ray Hundley will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Friday in the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Saturday in the church from 12:00 noon until the start of the service.
