John Shelton Guidry, 68, of Lake Charles died Saturday August 22, 2020 in the comfort of his home.
Mr. Guidry was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He was a graduate of Washington High School where he was a member of the band. Following graduation, he attended trade school and enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served in the National Guard for nearly twenty years. He worked his younger years for Boeing, now Northrop Grumman and Haliburton and worked nearly forty years for EMR Southern Recycling where he retired a Supervisor of many years. Mr. Guidry enjoyed fishing, horses and trail rides and most importantly spending time with his friends and family. His passion was always music. He loved entertaining, having played countless shows over the years, his band “Cookie and the Cupcakes” was recently inducted into the Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame. He was honored to have also played many sets with his father-in -law, Boozoo Chavis and his Magic Sounds. Mr. Guidry will be most remembered for his loyalty and love for his family.
He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of thirty-seven years, Louanna Chavis Guidry of Lake Charles; two daughters, Dawn Chavis Guidry and Courtney Chavis Guidry, both of Baytown, TX; parents, Roosevelt Guidry and Cecilia Fontenot Guidry; four grandchildren, Ja’Vaughn Gillum, Bryce Gillum, Dontrell Miller and Donavan Chavis; three siblings, Marie Guidry of Lake Charles, Michelle Chavis of Missouri City and Morris Guidry of Lake Charles; one godchild, Shayla Trail of Lake Charles; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Harmon (Curtis) and Licia Reed (Cleveland), both of Lake Charles and two brothers-in-law, Wilson Chavis, Jr. and Rellis Chavis, Sr. (Johnnie Belle), both of Lake Charles.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Wilson “Boozoo” Chavis; mother-in-law, Leona Predium Chavis and brother-in-law, Anthony Charles Chavis.
