John Stanley Comeaux, 71, of Lake Charles died at 11:52 PM on Monday, January 27, 2014 in a local hospital following a three year courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Mr. Comeaux was born on August 19, 1942 in Kaplan, LA. He was a graduate of LaGrange High School before enlisting in the U. S. Navy. He was stationed in San Diego, CA and served aboard the USS Wiltsie before being honorably discharged. Mr. Comeaux was a highly dedicated employee for Turner Industries until his health forced him into retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid sports fan. He especially was a fan of the Saints, LSU, and the Astros. Mr. Comeaux had a passion for bowling and was a member of two local bowling teams until his illness would not allow. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 46 years, Carol Young Comeaux; two daughters, Tracy Mitchell and husband Mike of Lake Charles and Shannon Comeaux and fiancé Jon Van Weele of Moss Bluff; a son, Darin Comeaux and companion Kim Demaskey of Lake Charles; a sister, Patsy Fults and husband Willis of Lake Charles; four brothers, Patrick Comeaux and wife Delores, Ronald Comeaux, Rickie Comeaux and wife Carol, and Murphy Comeaux all of Lake Charles; and six grandchildren, Devany Hooper, Sydne Hanisee, Hunter Comeaux, and Sophie Fontenot all of Lake Charles, and Jack and William Mitchell of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Cleveland Comeaux. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bill Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until the start of the services. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the care and compassion given to Mr. Comeaux during his illness to nurses at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, Tabitha, Lillibeth, Lauren, Kayleigh, Kara, Glen, Tiffany, and Earl; to his private home nurses, Theresa Rachal and Debbie Benoit; to the MDA-ALS Team at the Methodist Hospital in Houston; and also to Mr. Treacy with the Paralyzed Veterans Association.
