John Wesley Anderson, Jr.

John Wesley Anderson, Jr., 77, of Sulphur, LA passed away at 10:40 AM on Thursday, August 12, 2021 in a local hospital.

Born August 3, 1944 in Wichita, KS, Mr. Anderson moved to Louisiana at the age of nine and graduated from New Iberia High School in 1962.  He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp as a combat veteran during the Vietnam War.  Mr. Anderson then moved to the Lake Charles area and has lived in Sulphur for over thirty years.  He worked as a self-employed flooring contractor for many years and as a security officer for twenty-nine years at Himont, retiring in 2005.  He was a member of Westlake United Pentecostal Church.  During his younger years, he enjoyed riding and rebuilding motorcycles and restoring muscle cars.  He always enjoyed partaking in pranks and will be remembered for his dry sense of humor.  He was also a remarkable handyman, who loved to work and always stayed busy remodeling homes and could fix anything.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his sons, Ricky Burgess and wife Katy of Ragley and John W. Anderson, III and wife Tammy of Moss Bluff; daughters, Tammy Thompson and husband Gary of Ragley, LA and Elly Benoit of Sulphur; sisters, Judy Lee Miller and husband Bobby of Moss Bluff and Gail Cormie of Chloe; grandchildren, Chase Burgess and wife Kristen, Kevin Anderson, Alexis Anderson, Haley Johnson, Dalton Thompson and wife Camrie, Nicolas Gary and wife Stephanie, Madison Hattersley and husband Dakota, and Karleigh Benoit; and great-grandchildren Hannah, Wes, Gunnar, Fynli, Kinlee, Wyatt, Daxton, Barrett, Haegan, Parker, and Everleigh.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty years, Wanda Bushnell Anderson; parents, Nita and John Anderson, Sr.; brother, Ronnie Anderson; and three grandsons, Cory Burgess, Gary Thompson, Jr., and Blake Anderson.

His funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.  Reverend Terry Bushnell will officiate.  Burial will follow in Westlake Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
