John Joseph "JJ" Window III, born August 4, 1939, was welcomed home on March 19, 2025. So many loved ones have passed before him and with enthusiasm, greeted JJ upon his arrival, gleefully waiting for him to retell a story or two. JJ was a fabulous storyteller for his memory was vivid and he loved telling his own stories. JJ was a short man, hardly taller than 5'5" but his life was certainly lived as a big and full one. He lived with enthusiasm, loved being part of a group, and chose to be a leader in the activities in which he was involved. JJ may now rejoice and be glad, for his reward in heaven is great.
Graduating from LaGrange High School in 1957, JJ immediately joined the United States Navy for a three-year tour as a machinist mate. In the year 1959 John started his family with the mother of his children, Betty Jane Guillory. They welcomed their first son, Mark. In rapid succession three more sons were born into the fold, John IV, Kevin, and Brent. JJ was employed as a machinist at Gulf States Utilities for approximately 15 years and then in 1976 he started a fulfilling career at PPG as a machinist where he remained until retirement in 2002.
He met the love of his life Geneva Window and married on September 14, 1985, where they shared a beautiful 38 years together. JJ and Geneva's love for each other was extended by raising their granddaughter, Lindsey Harris.
The Knights of Columbus was an organization JJ proudly served in for almost 60 years. In this time, he dutifully served as Faithful Navigator, District Deputy, and Grand Knight. Upon retirement from PPG, JJ kicked up his outside activities with his membership in Master Gardeners in which he was a charter member, and charter president in 2003. His role of president was sustained until the current president took office. Master Gardeners was such a joy to JJ. Friends and outdoorsy comrades were made and flourished as they brought planting/growing knowledge and techniques to their community. Additionally, JJ served as camp boss at Beasley Creek Hunting Club in which he spent hunting weekends with many family and friends.
These last years were filled with declining health, loss of his beloved wife, Geneva; but JJ was faithful and hopeful his journey could be handled bravely until his Maker called him home. "Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great." Matthew 5:12. JJ is preceded in death by his parents John Jr and Jimmie Window, sister Nancy Madison, and brother Jimmy Window.
JJ is survived by his four sons, Mark (Melanie) Window, John Window IV, Kevin (Lisa) Window, Brent Window; his treasured grandchildren, Christi (Matt) Schirmer, Lindsey (Herman) Harris, Kelsey (Will) Frank, Elizabeth, Dayna, Phillip, Ava, and Blake Window. Also, graced in love by great-grandchildren, Niles and Charlee Schirmer and also as a loving family member and personal Cajun chef, Tonya Fontenot. Included as survivors are his extended family by rights of his first marriage. JJ was loved and cherished as a constant member of the large Guillory family, being forever one who belonged there too.
