Johnnie Mae Bergeron Kratzer

April 7, 1918 — April 26, 2012

Johnnie Mae Bergeron Kratzer, 94, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, in a local hospital.


A native of Eunice, Louisiana, Mrs. Kratzer was one of twelve children born to A. D. and Elia Bertrand Bergeron. In 1918, the same year in which she was born, Mrs. Kratzer's family moved to Oberlin, where she graduated from Oberlin High School in 1935 and where she married George Kratzer in 1936. She and George raised their five children in Roanoke, and she continued to live there after his death in 1971. In 1987, Mrs. Kratzer moved to Lake Charles, where she lived until the time of her death. Mrs. Kratzer was a wonderful homemaker. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.


Those left to cherish her memory are her children, George "Chick" Kratzer and wife Dolly of Houston, Kenneth Kratzer of Lake Charles, Paul Kratzer and wife Margaret, also of Houston, Douglas Kratzer of Etoile, Texas, and Dianne Menard and husband Olan, also of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Mark Kratzer and wife Brenna of Midland, Texas, Randy Kratzer and Eric Kratzer, both of Austin, Texas, and Michael Kratzer and wife Lindsay of Metairie; great grandchildren, Morgan Kratzer of Midland, TX and Scott Kratzer and wife Jessica, and their daughter, Aspen, Mrs. Kratzer's only great great grandchild.


A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00a.m. on Monday, April 30, 2012 at Our Lady of Help of Christian Catholic Church, 710 State St. in Jennings, Louisiana under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Charles McMillan will officiate. Interment will be in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Cemetery in Welsh, Louisiana. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday April 29, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 p.m., with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. and on Monday from 8 a.m. until 10:00 AM.


Pallbearers will be Mark Kratzer, Randy Kratzer, Eric Kratzer, Michael Kratzer, Scott Kratzer and Jesse Fontenot.


The family would like to thank the staff of Villa Maria Retirement Center who has provided such outstanding care, friendship and companionship to their mother during the last years of her life.
