Johnnie Morris Daugherty

Johnnie Morris Daugherty, 87, of Moss Bluff, LA died on Monday, November 29, 2010 in a local hospital.


Mr. Daugherty was born October 25, 1923 in Leesville, LA and lived most of his life in the Lake Charles area. He was a 1940 graduate of Lake Charles High School and attended McNeese State College, Louisiana State University, and the University of Houston, receiving his degree in Geology. Mr. Daugherty served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp where he retired as a Fighter / Helicopter Pilot. He served during World War II in the Southern Pacific and the Korean Conflict, and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He retired from Hach Chemical after many years of service. He was a member of the Moss Bluff United Methodist Church. He received the Degree of Chevalier from the Order of DeMolay.


Mr. Daugherty is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Pauline Goos Daugherty of Moss Bluff; children, Deborah Maddox of Katy, TX, John M. Daugherty (Nour) of Lake Charles, and David Daugherty (Elizabeth) of Kingwood, TX; step-children, Diana Weber (Mark) of Carlyss, LA, Becky LeLeux (Joe) of Moss Bluff, and Paula Hawes of Houston, TX; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Kane; parents, Garnett and Hattie Daugherty; and brother, Howard Daugherty.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Southwest Louisiana Children's Home, c/o Moss Bluff United Methodist Church, 735 Sam Houston Jones Pkwy, Lake Charles, LA 70611.


His funeral service will be private as per Mr. Daugherty's request. Burial will be in the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, TX.
