Johnny Pharis, 75, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born in DeQuincy, but made Sulphur his home. Johnny served his country in the United States Army after the Korean War. He worked for Conoco for 35 years retiring as an I & E supervisor over area B and C. Johnny enjoyed coaching and being a mentor to youth. He was an avid LSU fan, loved playing golf and spending time fishing at Toledo Bend. He never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with people. Johnny’s passion was spending time with his grandchildren.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vivian Pharis; his children, Lisa A. Istre (Dana) of Tomball, Texas, Brent C. Pharis (Hannah) and their children, Tori, Jace, Samuel, Matthew and one on the way, all of Sulphur and Eric Pharis (Jamie) and their children, Tucker, Brady and Campbell of Moss Bluff; his brothers, Roy O. Pharis (Pat) of DeQuincy and George Pharis (Connie) of Little Cypress; and eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy O. Pharis, Sr.; his mother, Beatrice Pharis Bankens and stepfather, Bennie Bankens.
Services will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 2:30 PM at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home with Pastor Rick McClain officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy, Pastor Rocky East will officiate the committal. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 4-9 PM at the funeral home and will resume on Sunday from 11 AM until the time of service.
