Jonathan Paul "Jp" Hatfield

August 22, 1979 — August 20, 2022

Jonathan Paul (JP) Hatfield’s larger than life story began on August 22, 1979. His personality and comedic fashion ensured you heard him before he ever entered the room.

He graduated from Barbe High School in May 1998 and received his BS in Nursing from McNeese State University in May 2017. Prior to and during the time he was pursuing his BS degree, JP worked as an EMT for Med-Express and West Cal-Cam Ambulance Service. After graduating he worked at various hospitals in the ICU as well as Heart of Hospice. JP’s career path was an extension of his infallible selflessness to help others.

The love he had for his son Hudson is the only thing that surpassed the love he had for helping others. Whether he was with friends or family, laughter and joy were always an ingredient for a successful day. Cooking and soccer were two other passions in his life. His patience to teach always showed through whether he was in the kitchen or on the soccer field. Over the years he played on various soccer teams, even coaching some high school and recreational teams. He was an amazing brother, son, uncle, and friend, but his best role was that of being a dad.

The title of “Best Beard and Mustache” was HIS among the brothers, a title he often reminded them of as he twirled the ends of his perfectly sculpted and curled “Stash”.

JP passed away unexpectedly on August 20, 2022. The loss of JP will forever change the dynamics of family get togethers as his infectious laugh and eccentric facial expressions, two of his defining features, will only be left in memories. His brothers shall live on working to perfect their own “debonair stach & beard”.

If JP had a message to give, it would be not to weep, that life is too short, so we must celebrate the good things, good memories, and of course good food! “Cheers to the good life my friends, I shall see you again.”

He is survived by his son, Hudson Paul Hatfield, father and stepmother, Tom and Mary Hatfield, brothers, Tommy Hatfield, Brent (Spring) Hatfield, Michael Bowling, Jonathan (Claire) Bowling, Stephen (Erin) Bowling, one sister, Janet Hatfield and four nieces and nephews, Kennedy Hatfield, Ben Hatfield, Addalynn Alleman, and Jack Bowling; along with his best friend, Christi Peloquin.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jesse and Dorothy Pennington, his paternal grandparents Betty and Thomas Hatfield Jr., his bonus grandmother, Connie Hatfield, and his mother Janet Pennington.

Family to welcome friends Tuesday, August 23, 2022 in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 5pm, with memory sharing at 7pm. Visitation to resume Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 9am until time of service. Celebration of Life services led by Dr. John Robert Black to begin at 11am. Cremation entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home following the services and he will be laid to rest at St. Luke Simpson Methodist Church Columbarium at a later date.
