Joey Alcede III, former Ward 3 Marshal, died Thursday, December 26, 2024 at his residence.
Joey was born in Lake Charles, November 18, 1948 to Joseph Alcede Jr. and Margaret Louise Alcede. He was a proud graduate of Lake Charles High School class of 1966.
Joey began his career in Law Enforcement at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office in 1969. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army in 1970, after his service in the military he returned to the Sheriff’s Office.
Throughout his distinguished 33-year career at the Sheriff’s Office, he served in multiple divisions, supervised hundreds of employees and finally retired as Chief of Corrections.
Following his retirement, Joey was elected Ward 3 Marshal in 2004 to complete the unexpired term of Tony Mancuso. He served with honor until his retirement in 2018.
During his 47 years in Law Enforcement, Joey was deeply involved in the community. He served on numerous boards and committees including: The Cowboy Club, McNeese Quarterback Club, Lake Charles Crime Stoppers, Louisiana Crime Stoppers, Petrochem, NAMI, Optimus Club, Louisiana Sheriff’s Pension Fund, Louisiana Sheriff’s Association, Family and Youth Counseling and Lake Charles ASA Girl’s Fastpitch Softball League.
For 25 years, from 1974-1999, Joey trained hundreds of Law Enforcement officers at the Calcasieu Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy. He was known for training an entire generation of law enforcement officers in the SWLA area.
Joey was selected by the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association to coordinate their State Jail Training Conference for eight years. He co-edited jail training and standards manuals for the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement and the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association.
Joey had the honor of earning the designation of being a Certified Jail Manager, the first ever in the State of Louisiana.
Joey was appointed by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury as Project Director for the planning, development and construction of the new correctional facility and Sheriff’s Department administration building. This appointment saved significant planning funds for the parish. Joey accepted the appointment while continuing his duties as Chief Jailer and received no additional compensation, a mark of a dedicated public servant.
Joey also served as a volunteer for the U.S. Department of Defense ESGR program. He served for more than 20 years as an Ombudsmen in the state, protecting the rights of Guardsmen and Reservists serving in our nation’s military.
He leaves his loving wife of 50 years, Dianna, their 3 children: son, Jeremy Alcede of Lake Charles, his three children: Blake, Cade and Ian. Their daughter, Crystal Alcede-Mathews (David) of Lake Charles, and their 7 children: Devin (Eryka), Andrew, Cadence, Emma, Molly, Nathan, Sadie and their grandchild: Gabe. Their daughter, Bethany Alcede Touchet (Shaun)of Lake Charles and their 3 children: Gracie (Caymn), Alexis, Miles and their grandchild: Brooks.
He was also survived by his two sisters, Edith Mathews of Lumberton, TX and Margaret “Peggy” Alcede of Lake Charles.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Alcede Jr. and Margaret Louise Alcede.
Joey’s family and friends will gather for visitation Sunday December 29th, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA.
Visitation will resume Monday December 30th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church-Central Venue, 1800 Country Club Road, Lake Charles, LA. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Jimmy Anderson will officiate. Interment services will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
