Joseph Clifton LaVergne, 75, of Starks, LA died at 11:10 PM on Thursday, January 17, 2013 in a local hospital.
Mr. LaVergne was born March 7, 1937 in Morse, LA, raised in Orange, TX and lived in Starks for the past forty-five years. He served his country in the U.S. Army where he was an ambulance driver. He worked for Costal Lumber and as a driver for Claybar Concrete, where he retired. Mr. LaVergne was a member of the Catholic Faith and was a past member of Gambrell Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, welding and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Mr. LaVergne is survived by his wife of over fifty years, Sarah Bryant LaVergne; daughters, Kathy Conner and husband Patrick of Mount Vernon, WA and Angelia East and husband Tim of Starks; grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth LaVergne, Christopher Conner, Natalie Conner, and Wesley East; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Alice LaVergne; brother, Shelton LaVergne; sisters, Oza Posey and Regine Posey; and nephew, Wesley LaVergne.
His funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Gambrell Baptist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Willie Posey will officiate. Burial will follow in Miller Annex Cemetery in Starks, LA. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Monday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
