Joseph Homer Smith, 87, was called home January 15th to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his family.
He was born in Ville Platte, LA on March 25, 1930 to Tanzy and Florence Vidrine Smith. After graduating from Ville Platte High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving state-side during the Korean Conflict in the 1950s. He retired from PPG Industries, Inc. after 43 years of service. As a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, he was dedicated to his faith and family. He will always be remembered as a loving Husband, precious Dad, and Grandfather with the “Patience of Job.” His family considered him a Master of the Grill. BBQ was served on any special occasion, holiday, or sunshiny Saturday.
Those left to cherish his sweet memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Theresa Chapman Smith, two daughters; Pamela Ann Wilson and husband, Stephen, Stephanie Marie Armentor and husband, James “Jimmy.” His grandchildren are; Jonathan G. Wilson, Grant J. Wilson and wife, Ashley; Nicholas, Danielle, Jared, Garrett, Jimbo Armentor and wife, Morgan, Megan Windenhouse and husband, Michael, and Kaitlyn Armentor. His great-grandchildren are; Kaitlyn, Matthew and Nathan Ashworth, and Carson, Wyatt, Sawyer Alaina, and Leighton.
The family will receive friends at Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 17th, from 4-8PM. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. by our dear friend, Starr Blanchette. The funeral service will he held at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday, January 18th at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Father Vijaya Peddoju, followed by burial at Consolata Cemetary. Petty Officer First Class, Danielle S. Driskel, loving granddaughter, will present the National Ensign to his wife, Theresa C. Smith.
The family would like to extend our appreciation to Heart of Hospice Nurse, Charlotte Ardoin, R.N. for her exceptional care and kindness.
