Joseph "Jay" Landry

Joseph “Jay” Diece Landry, 87, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 5:05 AM on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in a local care facility.

Mr. Landry was born March 5, 1928 in Vinton, LA and was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He worked for over thirty years at South Central Bell / AT&T as a cable splicer. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, and a lifelong member of the Communication Workers of America and BellSouth Pioneers. He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time outdoors. Mr. Landry was also a “mallwalker” for over twenty-four years and was part of the McDonald’s Coffee Club. He will always be remembered for his sweet, kind, and patient nature and loved to spoil his family and animals.

Mr. Landry is survived by his daughters, Brenda Landry of Nevada, Claudette Skellham of Lake Charles, and Margaret Higgins and husband Carl of Lacassine, LA; step-daughter, Terri Oliver and husband Randy of Westlake; girlfriend, Judy Pielow of Lake Charles, LA; grandchildren, Lee Skellham and wife Trish, Scott Skellham, Paul Higgins, Elizabeth Sanders and husband Rusty, Kathleen Higgins, Crystal Daigle and husband Ernie, Michael Simpson and wife Trisha and Corie Clopton and wife Jessie, Benjamin Oliver, Brandon Oliver and wife Laura; eight great-grandchildren with another on-the-way, and numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee Landry; parents, Columbus and Ozia Landry; nine brothers and sisters; step-son, Jerry Clopton; and his beloved dog, Queenie.

His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 1, 2016 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Father Jay Alexius will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 5:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Monday from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
