Joseph Joe Lawrence Wilfert II, 84, died following a brief illness, Tuesday, May 07, 2013 in a local hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
Mr. Wilfert was born, May 11, 1928 in Eunice, LA and lived in Lake Charles since 1949. He earned his GED and was employed at WR Grace for thirty-one years as an A Operator. While serving in the US Navy, he assisted in the clean up of Atomic testing on the Bikini Islands. He was a sixty year member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Wilfert mowed his 2 1/2 acre lawn for over forty years, taking great pride in the house he built himself with the help of his son, friends and relatives. He took in his widowed mother in the 1960's.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Ann Breslin Wilfert; father, Joseph L. Wilfert; mother, Armeza Lejeune Wilfert Fontenot Peloquin; siblings, Dorothy and Luke A Wilfert.
He leaves to honor his memory one sister, Cecilia Settle of Lake Charles; seven children: Joann Wilfert (Brian Holden), Elaine Glenn (Terry Mifsud), Pride Coyle (Steve), David Wilfert (Tama), Claire Sims (Jerry), Joseph Wilfert (Heather) and Robert Wilfert (Carol); grandchildren: Christian Glenn, Jennabeth Daughdrill, Patricia Stroderd, Harmony Reppond, Meghan Reppond, Christopher Reppond, Andrew Sims, Jason Wilfert, Jack Wilfert, Benjamin Wilfert, Lilly Wilfert; great-grandchildren: Arden Stroderd, Austin Stroderd, Walter Reppond-Weisz and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 11, 2013 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Father Keith Pellerin will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Friday will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:30 AM. Visitation Saturday will be from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM in the funeral home.
