Joseph Louis Bourgeois, 77, passed away September 2, 2017 at his home in Creole, LA.
He lived in Creole for 54 years where he worked for Boudoin Bros, Cameron Telephone Co., the Monkey Island ferry and also trapped nutria for their fur. Most know Louis from his small engine and lawn mower repair business. Louis was born January 11, 1940 in Sweetlake, LA to Esaus (Dick) and Zilda M. (Conner) Bourgeois. He was raised in Elton, LA for 16 years then moved to Lake Charles for 7 years before moving to Creole. While living in Creole he met and married his wife Hilda Thibodeaux on October 21, 1968. They never had any children of their own but had a number of nieces and nephews to share their love with.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Hilda T. Bourgeois; 2 sisters, Gloria Bourgeois of Danielville, GA, and Lerdie McMahon of Kinder, LA; uncle, Hewitt Conner of Lake Charles; 2 aunts, Ester Mae Guillory of Welsh, LA, and Shirley Mouton of Ragley; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Esaus and Zilda Bourgeois; sister and brother-in-law, Lou Anna and Robley David; and 4 nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1PM on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Creole, LA. Burial will follow at Little Chenier Cemetery. Rev. Babasino Fernandes will officiate. Visitation will be 4PM to 9PM, Wednesday on September 6 at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. A rosary will be held at 6PM. Visitation will continue Thursday morning at 9AM until Noon at the funeral home.
