Joseph Maxwell Cagle, Jr., 64, of Lake Charles died at 9:22 PM on Thursday, June 20, 2013 in a local hospital following a courageous battle with Leukemia.
Joe was born on August 21, 1948 in Beaumont, TX and was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He was a graduate of Lake Charles High School and received his degree from McNeese State University. He served in the U.S. Army in the Airborne Division. Joe worked most of his life in auto sales with his family business at Cagle Chevrolet. Following retirement he managed the Cagle Family Farm near Fenton, LA which included rice, crawfish, timber, and several other divisions.
Joe was a one of a kind. He lived his life to the ultimate and enjoyed every minute of it. If you met Joe, you never forgot him. He had an impressionable personality that leaves behind a great legacy. Joe was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He also had a passion for traveling and enjoyed a good meal.
He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending quality time with his family and enjoying company with friends.
Those left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his loving wife, Laura Cormier Cagle of Lake Charles; five daughters, Jennifer Cagle Ackel of Lake Charles, Jolynne Cagle Dennis of Moss Bluff, Jillian Cagle Underwood of Sulphur, Abigail Kristen Cagle, and Christine Marie Cagle both of Lake Charles; two sons, Joseph Maxwell Cagle, III of Austin, TX and Zachary Michael Cagle of Lake Charles; a step son, Garrett Nicholas Price of Lake Charles; five sisters, Suzanne Cagle Shearman of Lake Charles, Cathleen Cagle Post of Sandia Park, NM, Christine Cagle Kidder of Brandon, MS, Elizabeth Cagle Loftin, and Marianne Cagle Brame both of Lake Charles; three brothers, Timothy Griggs Cagle of Cincinnati, OH, Michael Roane Cagle of Lake Charles, and Casey Mathew Brantley Cagle of Lafayette; and twelve grandchildren, Lauren, Kristen, and Julianna, Andrew, Anna Grace, Austin, Ava, and Aidan, and Justice, Joshua, Jolie, and Trinity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Belle and Joseph Maxwell Cagle, Sr.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 23, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. David Smith will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 11:00 AM and continue until the start of the services.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Joe to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of his granddaughter, Anna Grace, www.stjude.org.
