Joseph Ray Richard, Sr.

September 26, 1923 — January 3, 2016

Joseph Ray Richard, Sr., 92, went to be with his Lord on January 3, 2016.

 

He was a devout Catholic, Eucharistic minister, adult altar server, in the 3rd degree order of St. Benedict, and 3rd degree Knights of Columbus. He was a retired Borden’s milkman and a proud WWII Navy Veteran.

 

He was born on September 26, 1923 in Church Point, LA. He is survived by his six children, Elaine Shaw, Cathy Lowry and husband Billy, Ann Broussard and husband Randy, Joseph Ray Richard, Jr. and wife Nancy, Michael Richard, and Sylvia Guidry. He had twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of sixty nine years, Vina Richard; his parents; five siblings, and two grandsons; Rick and Adam Guidry.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 7, 2016 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church. Abbot James Liprie as homilist and Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA. A rosary and scripture service will be at 6:30 PM Wednesday. Visitation will resume from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home.

 

A special thanks goes to his caregiver, Veronica Fontenot. We would also like to acknowledge a special employee at Stonebridge Assisted Living, Melissa Hunsicker, for her loving care.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678.
