Joseph Richard, Jr.

Joseph “Joe” Richard, Jr., 75 of Sulphur, was called home to his Blessed Savior Jesus Christ, on November 27, 2015 at 1:55 A.M. He was surrounded by his wife and all five of his children. Born on November 16, 1940 to Joseph Richard, Sr. and Ezora Daigle Richard, in Jennings, LA and was the youngest of 15 children.   Joe spent his adult life in Sulphur, LA and graduated from Sulphur High in 1959, where he was in the top 25 of his class. He attended Sowela as well as Lee College in Baytown, TX. He married Joyce Mae Sonnier on November 18, 1961. Joe was the store manager at K&B Drugs for 35 years and was a proud member of Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church for over 50 years. After retirement, Mr. Richard became a substitute teacher for CPSB, where he was loved by students and staff alike.   Joe is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joyce Richard of Sulphur; his 5 children, Melony (Billy) Abshire, Bridgett (Vince) Guidry, Todd (Angie) Richard, Monica (James) Istre all of Sulphur, and Josie Monique (Bobby) Stewart of Greenville, SC. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by 20 grandchildren, Tawny Benoit, Tiffany Young, Jerica Camel, April Young, Joshua Guidry, Amy Young, Tracy Ackman, Joey Abshire, Tyler Renfroe, David Istre, Courtney Stewart, Trenton Miller, Daniel Abshire, Anthony Istre, Caroline Stewart, Bobby Stewart, Gabriel Istre, Meadow Richard, Monet Richard, and Myles Richard;19 great grandchildren; and his brother, Knute Richard of Dry Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 13 of his 14 siblings.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 1 P.M. at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church in Sulphur with Fr. Ernie Corriveau officiating. Burial will be in Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 11 A.M.- 9 P.M. with a rosary at 6 P.M.at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Monday, November 30 , 2015 from 8 A.M. until time of leaving for the church.
