Joseph Stanley

Joseph P. (J.P.) Stanley, 80, of Carlyss, LA, went to be with the Lord Monday, November 15, 2010. Joseph was born in Johnson Bayou, LA, on November 24, 1929, to Clarence and Veronica Adaway Stanley. J.P. enlisted in the army and served as a Medical Technician. He received his Honorable Discharge as a Technician, Fourth Grade, Regular Army, in June of 1948. He worked for a number of petrochemical facilities and refineries in Texas and Louisiana, retiring from Citgo Refinery on January 1, 1994, after 25 years of service. J.P. loved fishing and hunting. He spent many years fishing with friends and especially with his children and grandchildren. Some of his favorite times were his fishing trips to the beach with his family. During his retirement years, J.P. and his wife Sandra traveled with their travel trailer across many states, a wonderful enjoyment for both. J. P. loved baseball and coached boys baseball for 16 years. He also coached girls softball. Mr. Stanley had the joy and privilege of coaching his children. J.P. and Sandra have resided in Carlyss since 1958. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lake Charles. J.P. was preceded in death by his parents, 9 brothers, and 3 sisters. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife and best friend of 58 years, Sandra Barnett Stanley, two sons, Terry W. Stanley and wife Elizabeth of Lake Charles, Larry J. Stanley, Sr. and wife Kathy of Fredericksburg, VA, two daughters, Janet G. Richardson and husband Jay of Baton Rouge, LA, Lauri G. Castille and husband Camus of Carlyss, LA, 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. J.P. had a very special affection for his family. His funeral will be at Robisons Funeral Home in Sulphur, LA, on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 11 AM. Rev. Francis LaRocque, Rev. Daniel G. Stanley, and David Lee Stanley will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 PM to 9 PM Wednesday, November 17, 2010, as well as 8 AM until time of service on Thursday. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss, LA, with a Military Service. Pallbearers will be Aaron Stanley, Cory Richardson, Casey Richardson, Andrew Castille, Larry J. Stanley, Jr., Christopher Stanley, and Garrett Atkins. Honorary Pallbearers are Camus Castille and Jay Richardson.
