Joseph Syas

April 24, 1957 — May 17, 2022

“Rest well Joe Boy, you will be greatly missed.”

Joseph “Joe Boy” Syas, of Dallas, TX, passed away unexpectedly and untimely Tuesday, May 17, 2022 in Dallas.

Mr. Syas was born on April 24, 1957 in Lake Charles where he resided until May of 1986. He attended Second Ward Elementary, Reynaud Middle and W.O. Boston High School. He worked his last eight years in Lake Charles as a laborer for Magcobar Drilling Fluids. Upon the closing of Magcobar, an opportunity with Texas Instruments prompted his move to Dallas, TX. Having worked other jobs through the years his latest job was with the Goodwill, a job he loved and took pride in. The regulars dropping off items knew him as “the nice man sitting in the chair.” He was a peacekeeper. A man of faith, hard work, good nature and kind heart who often helped others with yard work, gardening, straightening and organizing. Chaos and confusion was something he didn’t stand for.

He was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan who also found it necessary to cheer on the Saints unless they were playing the Cowboys! Mr. Syas enjoyed cooking, gumbo being his signature dish. He loved life, dancing and having fun and blowing his whistle as the life of the party. He will be most remembered for his love for his siblings, nieces, nephews and grandchildren and his daily “fussing” with his sister, Ceola!

He leaves to honor his memory, one daughter, Crystal Brignac of Lake Charles; three grandchildren, Alexis Brignac and Aliyah and Alana Talbert; four great grandchildren, Zalynn Brignac, Raegan and Reign Brown and Khyre Talbert; eight sisters, Ceola Syas Peters of Dallas, TX, Stella Syas Toussain (Ricky) of Baton Rouge, Rosa Syas Levy of Lake Charles, Sandra Syas Bill of Lake Charles, Angela Syas Cline (Kenneth) of San Antonio, TX; step-sisters, Tonia Thomas Kelly (Darrell) of Houston, TX, Margaret Miller (Lynn) of Dallas, TX and Eunice “Darlene” Prude of Lake Charles; one brother, Anthony Syas of Dallas, TX and one step-brother, Donald Joubert (Marsha) of Little Elm, TX.  He also leaves two best friends, Robert Sterling and Gerome Simon; close cousin, Robert Bartie; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Crawford Syas, Jr. and Alberta Gisendaner Syas; stepmother, Willie May Syas; sister, Bobbie Ann Syas; three brothers, Albert Lee Gisendaner Douglas Ray Syas and Derrick Syas; stepbrother, Dolly “Pookie” Joubert and two nephews, Corey Syas and Nathan Syas.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM Saturday, June 4th, 2022 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Desmond Wallace will officiate. Visitation Saturday will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to any Goodwill location.
