Joy Frances Douglass Humphreys

Joy Frances Douglass Humphreys, 82, joined her Lord and Savior at 7:12 AM on Saturday, September 16, 2017.

Joy was born December 30, 1934 in Tulsa, OK and was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles, LA. She was a Christian woman who had a servant’s heart and loved the Lord and her family dearly. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed. Mrs. Humphreys was a founding member of Glad Tidings Church, where she was past president of the Women’s Ministry, a Sunday School teacher, choir member, Girl’s Group Missionette Leader, and hosted ladies Bible groups and Couples Bible groups in her home, along with teaching children in her neighborhood in her younger days. She also taught Reading at the Glad Tidings Christian Academy for a number of years. She enjoyed volunteering her time at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, where she served as a patient representative.

Those left behind to treasure her memory are her daughters, Connie Gormly (Henry), Susan Humphreys, and Monica Gaspard (Derryl), all of Lake Charles; son, Troy N. Humphreys, Jr. (Michelle) of Houston, TX; brother, Dr. Marvin Douglass (Karen) of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Marlon Carnahan (Kristin), Jennifer Forest (Matt), Heather Burton (Michael), Jeremy Gormly (Maeve), Joshua Humphreys (Maria), Abigail Humphreys (Chance Buchanan), Annie Humphreys, Ryan Gaspard (Tiffaney), Jillian Gaspard, and Connor Gaspard; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and Glad Tidings family that she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Troy Ned Humphreys, Sr.; parents, Mittie and Paul Douglass; and sister, Kathy Taveney.

Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Marvin Douglass and Rev. Ray Hundley will officiate, assisted by Pastor Gary Evers. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
