Joy "Madge" (Mayfield) Pitts

Moss Bluff - Joy Madge (Mayfield) Pitts, 88, passed away at 1:55pm on Monday, September 30, 2019 in her home.

Mrs. Pitts was born in Cushing, Tx on February 23, 1931 and had lived in this area for 11 years coming from Bridge City, Tx. where she was employed by the Bridge City Independent School District. Joy enjoyed playing piano, painting and traveling in her younger days. After her physical mobility diminished, she continued her love of reading, enjoyed working crossword/sudoku puzzles and snuggling with her four-legged baby, Bella.

Gifted with a keen wit and sense of humor, Joy was extremely intelligent, compassionate, gracious and insightful.

Mrs. Pitts is preceded in death by her parents Needham Qualls Mayfield and Lucy Gladys West Mayfield; her husband, Gerald Dewey Pitts; son, Thomas Dewey Pitts; sister, Margaret Ann Malone; and brother Joseph Marion Mayfield. Survivors include her daughters, Stella Kathleen Pitts Smith of Moss Bluff, La, Margie Ann Pitts of San Augustine, Tx, Penny Sue Pitts Bays and husband Gerald of Buna, Tx; sons, David Gerald Pitts of Bridge City, Tx and Harold Ray Pitts of Nacogdoches, Tx; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her funeral services will be at 3:00pm on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Home Moss Bluff. Rev. Marcus Wade will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00am until service time. A graveside service will be at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 3, 2019 in Sunset Memorial Park, Nacogdoches, Tx.
