Joy Virginia Temple Barkate

Joy Virginia Temple Barkate, 87, of Lake Charles, passed away the 10th day August 2014 at her son's residence in New Orleans following a brief illness. Joy was a member of Immaculate Conception Cathedral. She was born in Temple, Louisiana. Preceding Joy in death are her parents, Gertrude and Edgar Temple; sister, Victoria Blevins; and infant son, Gabriel J. Barkate, Jr. She is survived by her beloved husband, Gabriel Joseph Barkate, and children, Victoria Brentin and husband John of Houston, TX ; James Barkate and wife, Glenda of Metairie, LA; Yolande Goudeau and husband, Gray of Metairie, LA; Stephanie Spain and husband, Joe of Lake Charles, LA; Suzanne Emerson of Metairie, LA; and Steven Barkate of Metairie, LA. Also, grandchildren, Ronnie Redmann and wife, Stephanie; Steven Brentin and wife Rebecca; Temple Barkate, Jack Brentin, Schelin Barkate , Ben Brentin, James Goudeau ,Chandler Barkate, Gabriel Emerson, Reed Barkate and Ian Marx. Great-grandchildren are Kylie, Tyler and Madison Redmann and Gabriel Brentin. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, 12th day of August, 2014 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 935 Bilbo St., Lake Charles, LA. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Monday, 11th day August, 2014, will be at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM with a rosary being recited at 7:30 PM In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
