Joyce Aguillard Brunet

Joyce Aguillard Brunet, 95 years old, passed away on October 5, 2012 in Lake Charles.

She was born in Chataignier, Louisiana on February 18, 1917 to C. P. and Merecia Aguillard. She graduated from Chataigneir High School and Attended Louisiana College and received a BA degree in 1936.

After graduation from college, she taught one year in her home town, before marrying Elden Brunet and moving to Basile where she taught Home Economics, until 1959 when she and her husband moved to Oakdale and she taught in the same capacity until her retirement.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Aguillard, her sister Ruth Leis and her brother Roy Aguillard and her loving husband of 74 years, Elden Brunet.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Michael Brunet and Jane Fitzgerald Brunet of Alexandria, LA, Diana Hicks and Lana Bel and her husband Jim Bel of all of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Shana Hicks Ferryman of Denham Springs, LA, Hannah Cook of Nashville, TN, Dr. Michael Brunet II and Allison Brunet Bandy both of Alexandria, LA.; 5 nephews, 3 nieces, and 9 great-grandchildren.

She served in multiple capacities in both Basile First Baptist Church and Oakdale First Baptist Church. She was also active in Women's Missionary Union and with her husband in home missions, Campers On Mission, French Missions, Dry Creek Baptist Encampment and Louisiana College.

The family wishes to extend thanks to the caregivers who were so loving; Ebony Bryant, Diane Cone, Sheila Doucet, Christy Fowlkes, Mary Fowlkes, Cheryl Grigsby, Martha Senegal, Pam Watkins and Ella Wright. They wish to also thank Glenn Martin of Southern Home Health, Dr. Steve Springer and Dr. Craig Broussard of Pulmonary Associates.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, October 8, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mike McIntosh will officiate. Visitation Sunday will be from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Visitation will continue Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home. Graveside services will at 3:00 PM Monday in Basile Baptist Cemetery in Basile, LA. Rev. Louis Charrier will officiate.
