Mary Joyce Broussard Simien, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. She was born on January 17, 1941 in Lewisburg, Louisiana, to Wilfred and Augustine Broussard.
Joyce was a loving mother and grandmother who spent most of her life “mining her babies”. She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, listening to Zydeco music and all things gold. She was a woman of strong Catholic faith and believed in the goodness of others.
Those left to cherish her memory are, her beloved children, Sharon Baskerville (Skip), Reginald Simien (Tracey Tyler), Sheryl Lavergne (Joseph), LaShonda Manuel (Chris); her grandchildren, Trey, Chandler and CJ Baskerville, Ashlyn Chafin, Cameron and Tyler Lavergne, Aiden and Reese Manuel, Ryan Simien, Chad and Alex Richard, Nicholas Tezeno; her great grandchildren, Chad Richard, Jr., Aurora and Dominic Chafin; her brothers, Gerald Broussard (Audretta), Ronald Broussard, Donald Broussard, Darrell Broussard, Joseph Broussard (Alice); ex-husband, Emerick Simien; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family of the heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred Broussard and Augustine Sampa Broussard, her sons, Emerick Simien, Jr. and Gregory James Simien; her sisters, Gustavia Edwards, Geraldine Doucet, Betty Chavis; her brothers Aubrey Broussard and John Wilford Broussard, Jr.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Combre Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St., Lake Charles, LA on the evening of Monday, January 29, beginning at 5:00 PM and continuing until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be Trey Baskerville, Chandler Baskerville, CJ Baskerville, Cameron Lavergne, Tyler Lavergne, Ryan Simien and Nicholas Tezeno. Honorary Pallbearer is Chad Richard.
The family would like to give special thanks to Shawndell Turner and LaCara Broussard for your spiritual guidance. Appreciation is also given to her loving caregivers at Grand Cove Nursing Home and Harbor Hospice.
