Joyce Dean Lavergne Richard

Joyce Dean Lavergne Richard, 86, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 4:20 PM on Thursday, October 8, 2020 in a local hospital.

Ms. Richard was born February 11, 1934 in Rayne, LA and has lived in Lake Charles for the past sixty-five years.  She worked as a salesclerk for Montgomery Wards and retired from Dillard’s in 2012, where she worked in the Lingerie Department.  She was a member of the Catholic faith.  Ms. Richard will be remembered for her generous and kind heart and her selflessness.  She enjoyed plants, gardening, and cooking, as her fried chicken was always a family favorite.  She loved everyone in her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and her great-granddaughter.

Ms. Richard is survived by her sons, Andrew Richard, Jr., Larry Richard and wife Gina, and Gary Richard, all of Lake Charles; brothers, Antony Lavergne and Joseph Lavergne and wife Maria; sister, Mary Melancon, Gloria  Comeaux and Cynthia Comeaux and husband Kenneth; her grandchildren, Bobby Richard and wife Annie, Jennifer Richard and husband Eric Athmejuar, Daniel Richard, and Kayla Richard Cook and husband Cory; and her great-grandchild, Lorelei Richard.

She was preceded in death by her son, Carl Joseph Richard; parents, Louise and John B. Lavergne; and siblings, Charles Lavergne, Victoria Lavergne, and John B. Lavergne, Jr., Gail Broussard, Glenda Arsement, and Geraldine Lavergne.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Moss Bluff.  Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  A gathering of family members and friends will be at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 AM until the start of the service.

Pallbearers for the service will be Bobby Richard, Daniel Richard, Eric Athmejuar, Brian Lantz, Blain Trahan, Tyler Trahan, Kevin LeBlanc, and Bailey Melancon, with Dennis Lantz serving as an honorary pallbearer.
