Joyce Fontenot Etheridge

Joyce Fontenot Etheridge, 89, was called to her eternal home on Monday, September 19, 2011


Born on October 22, 1921 in Chataignier, Louisiana to Tanas and Martha Fontenot, Mrs. Etheridge moved to Cameron Parish with her parents at the age of four. She later moved to Lake Charles, where she met her husband, the late Thomas H. Etheridge, while he was stationed at Lake Charles Airfield (Chennault) during the second World War. Mrs. Etheridge was a devoted homemaker, and her life revolved around her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Known as "Nana" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mrs. Etheridge delighted in every moment that she spent with them. She was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.


Mrs. Etheridge is survived by one sister, Vernice Brand of Lake Charles; one son, Harlan Etheridge and wife Hsiao Yu (Kathy) of Lafayette; two daughters, Patricia Burgess and husband Lamar, Jr., of Lake Charles and Jenny Etheridge of Arlington, Texas; six grandchildren, Kristi Snody, Lamar Burgess III, Desiree' Burgess, Joel Terranova, Gena Terranova, and Tommy Etheridge; three great grandchildren, Sydney Terranova, Garrison Lamar Burgess and Gracie Rae Burgess; and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of thirty-seven years, Thomas Harlan Etheridge, her parents, three brothers, one sister and numerous nephews and nieces.


Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.


The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their mother to Debbie Johnson, Teresa Drake, Emma Prudhomme, and the Staff at Resthaven Nursing Center.
