Joyce Larsen

Joyce Larsen, 87, of Sulphur died at 8:25 PM on Friday, August 2, 2013 in a local hospital.


Mrs. Larsen was born on September 3, 1925 in Mansfield, LA and lived in Baton Rouge until moving to Sulphur with her son and daughter-in-law in 2001. She was a graduate of Mansfield High School and continued her education at LSU where she received her master's degree in education. Mrs. Larsen taught school at Westwood Elementary School, retiring from East Baton Rouge Parish School Board.


She was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur and also belonged to the Sweet Adeline's Choir for many years.


Those left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Beau Hicks of Sulphur, Brian Law of New York, Brandy and husband Kelvin Mote of Omaha, NE, and Tiffany and husband Jimmy Thornton of Moss Bluff; nine great grandchildren, Abigail, Tyler, Jaxson, Mykenzie, Justin, Dylon, Logan, Zachary, and Miles; a daughter-in-law, Janice Law of Westlake; and a nephew, Richard Hoell of Carthage, TX.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Larsen; a son, Robert Bruce Law; and a brother, Elmer Lee Hoell.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 5, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the start of the services with a rosary being recited at 10:30 AM. Burial will be held at Grand Cane Cemetery in Mansfield, LA on Tuesday at 10:00 AM.
