Joyce Taylor Jones

January 2, 1929 — January 31, 2016

Joyce Taylor Jones, 87, of Lake Charles, La., died on Sunday, January 31, 2016 in her home surrounded by family and friends following a lengthy illness.

Born in Beaufort, North Carolina, Joyce lived most of her life in the Sweet Lake community of Cameron Parish. She was always known as a kind, loving, gentle and soft-spoken lady.

Joyce dearly loved God and was active in church. While living in Sweet Lake, she was especially devoted to the Sweet Lake United Methodist Church, assisting with the children’s sermons, bible school, bible study, Sunday school, singing in the choir and numerous church programs.

In her eyes, Joyce’s greatest achievements were successfully rearing her five children and being happily married for 35 years to the love of her life, Jennings B. Jones, Jr., who died in 2004. She was never able to overcome the grief she experienced by this loss. Many times Joyce expressed how she was so looking forward to being reunited with him in heaven. She passed away on their anniversary date.

Survivors include sons, David Willis of Sweet Lake, Butch Willis and Bryan Jones of Lake Charles, daughters, Bonnie Conner and Jill Willis of Lake Charles, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Sweet Lake United Methodist Church, 5180 La 397, Bell City (Sweet Lake) 70630, followed by interment in the church cemetery beside her beloved Jennings.

The family wishes to offer special thanks to Brighton Bridge Hospice, especially Nurse Melinda who was there to comfort her through her last night, her devoted caregivers, Debbie Guillory, Alice Chatman, Jana Siebold, Pat Miller, Jody Stewart and her lifelong best friend and caregiver, Aline Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Sweet Lake United Methodist Church at the above address or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.Alz.org.
