Joyce Thompson Clark

Joyce Thompson Clark, 85, passed away peacefully at her residence on November 4, 2015. She was a beloved mother and friend of many. Ms. Clark was born in Grant, Louisiana on June 11, 1930, and moved to Lake Charles with her parents, Dewitt and Lois Thompson, when she was 12 years old. She was a 1947 graduate of Lake Charles High School. She married James Mercer Clark on September 18, 1947 in Lake Charles and they lived there as husband and wife for 21 years. She worked for Muller's Department Store in Lake Charles and, during retirement, for the Calcasieu Council on Aging. She was a member of St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church. Ms. Clark was devoted to her family and loved being with them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored. Ms. Clark is survived by, her two brothers, Dewitt Thompson Jr and his wife, Mary Lou Verret Thompson, of Lake Charles and Alan Thompson and wife, Rivi Mae Fernandez, of Gautier, Mississippi; her four sons, Colonel (USA Ret) Raymond Connor Clark and his wife, Barbara Marcantel Clark; Deacon Jerry Bryant Clark and his wife Kathy Alexander Clark; James David Clark and his wife Tammy Kahrs Clark; Michael Alan Clark and his wife Karen Wegener Clark; Her nine grandchildren, Rebekah Sharon Clark, Raymond Connor Clark Jr, Matthew David Clark, William Connor Clark, Carrie Anne Clark Gallegos, Jerry Bryant Clark Jr, Christopher Ryan Clark, Benjamin Michael Clark, and Katherine Elizabeth Clark; and her six great grandchildren, Octaviano Gallegos III, Houston-Cole Connor Clark, Jordan Matthew Clark, Emma Lynn Gallegos, Raychal Dawn Clark, and Kaylee Elizabeth Clark; Ms. Clark was preceded in death by her parents, Dewitt Raymond Thompson, Sr. of Tickfaw, LA and the former Annie Lois Smith, of DeRidder, LA; and her Mother-in-Law and friend, Johnnie Margaret Winford Clark. Ms. Clark's Grandsons, Raymond Clark Jr, Matthew Clark, William Clark, Bryant Clark, Christopher Clark, and Benjamin Clark will serve as pallbearers. Funeral services for Ms. Clark will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 11:00 PM until time of service at Johnson Funeral Home. The interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Highland Memorial Park in Lake Charles. Father Peter Cook, Retired Pastor of St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church will officiate the funeral services along with Deacon Jerry Bryant Clark. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Villa Maria Retirement Center in her memory would be appreciated. The family would like to thank Villa Maria, Landmark of Lake Charles, and Heart of Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.
