Juanita B. Surles

Juanita Brown Surles, 89, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 6:40 PM on Monday, May 9, 2016 in her residence.

 

Mrs. Surles was born from a Navy family on January 28, 1927 in Washington, DC.  Her father was the last living WWI Navy Veteran.  Her husband served in World War II on the USS Franklin and her son in Vietnam on the USS Vesole.  During WWII, she worked as a Rosie the Riveter to help her country.  She loved cooking, painting, gardening, and her dogs.

 

Mrs. Surles is survived by her son, John Surles and wife Cindy of DeQuincy; sisters, Ann Veltri of New Jersey and Nancy Espina of Maryland; grandchildren, James Surles and wife Gini and Jackie Heber and husband Eric; and great-grandchildren, Jonathon, Julia, and Lena.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack G. Surles; and brother, Bernard Brown.

 

Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.

 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of her angels; Andrea Robinson, Mary Nix, Tina Lachapelle and George Hollier, as well as all of her neighbors.
