Juanita Barron Melton

Jaunita completed her earthly journey on May 17, 2014 at the age of 86. She was born an only child to Hance and Sadie Barron in Harmony Community of Crystal Springs, Mississippi on December 10, 1927. She graduated from high school at Crystal Springs Consolidated School and later earned her Bachelor of Science Degree at Mississippi College. In 1950 she married Eddie J. Melton. They had two sons, Larry Andrew and Dwight Wilson. Both Eddie and Juanita taught school in the Jackson, MS area until 1964. In that year they moved to Lake Charles, LA. Here, in the Calcasieu Parish School System, Juanita taught at various elementary and junior high schools for twenty years. Juanita also attained her Masters Degree in Education from McNeese State University in Lake Charles. Juanita was active in educational organizations, University United Methodist Church, United Methodist Womens, and PEO Sisterhood (a philanthropic organization promoting educational opportunities for women). Her joy and greatest stress reliever was doing anything out in the open air, but most importantly gardening. She loved working in her yard and helping plants grow. She also loved traveling and camping with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her younger son, Dwight who died as a result of an industrial accident in 1979. Survivors are her husband of sixty-three years, Eddie Melton; her son Larry Melton of Davis, CA; her granddaughter, Alison Melton and her grandson-in-law Kyle Fazelian of Lincoln, CA. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 4:00 PM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin Thursday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Reverend Charlie Langford will officiate. Cremation will follow after the service.
