Juanita Marie Poe

Juanita Marie Herrington Poe, 84, of Westlake, LA, died on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at her daughter's residence in Pineville, LA. Mrs. Poe was born August 30, 1930 in Benton, AR and lived most of her life in the Lake Charles / Westlake area until recently moving to Pineville, LA. She was a 1947 graduate of LaGrange High School and received her degree in Education with a minor in Music from McNeese State College. Mrs. Poe worked at Westwood Elementary School for ten years as a music teacher and later at Lake Area Worship Center in Westlake, also for ten years. She was a talented and gifted piano player, and enjoyed touring the country to share her gift. Mrs. Poe was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Edgerly, where she played the piano for the past thirteen years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Poe is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Oscar Raymond Poe; daughter, Ellen Lester and husband Ron of Pineville, LA; sons, Mike Poe and wife Sonya of Lake Charles and Joel Poe of Eunice, LA; son-in-law, Billy White; sister, Joyce Hall of Oakland, CA; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie White. Her memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Russell Beard will officiate. A gathering of family members and friends will be held on Saturday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
