Judie Joseph Guillory, Sr., 92 years old, of Lake Charles, died peacefully in his home on October 14, 2011.
Mr. Guillory was born January 1, 1919, in Oberlin, LA, and resided 70 plus years in Lake Charles where he was the owner and manager of Southern Furniture Company for 46 years. He was an active member of his community having served diligently as a Kiwanis Club member; usher, Parish Council member, Eucharist Minister, and member of the Altar Society at Immaculate Conception Cathedral Church; Grand Knight of Council #1207, transferred to St. Margaret's Council and 4th Degree of Msgr. Cramer Council becoming an honorary member of both KC's for a total of 67 years; past president and member of the Serra Club; member of the Lake Charles Uptown Merchants; member of the Chamber of Commerce; past president and member of the Board of Directors of the Lake Charles Credit Bureau; past president and member of the SW Louisiana Furniture Realtors Association; and past president of the Landry Memorial Athletic Association.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Mary Lou Vidrine Guillory; his parents, Gil and Alidia Guillory; brothers, Emere Guillory, Cammie Guillory, Edward Guillory, Elance Guillory; sisters, Ena Guillory, and Oline Townley. Mr. Guillory is survived by his children, Betty Bates and husband, Gerald; Gerald Guillory and wife, Charlotte; Rodney Guillory; Belinda Graham and husband Byron; Jud Guillory, Jr. and wife, Carol; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
Mr. Guillory lived a long and productive life filled with memories of times shared with family at his camp on the river in Indian Village, LA and his Colorado mountain cabin. At these two places he shared his passion for hunting and fishing and lived for the moments that he could travel to his Colorado paradise for elk season with his sons and extended family.
The family extends their extreme gratitude to his primary caregiver, Melinda Deville; sitters Mary Jo Schroeder, Linda Reed, Nadia Abu-Ain; Home Instead Senior Care; and Odyssey Hospice for their compassionate support and loving care of Mr. Guillory this past year.
His Funeral Mass will be Monday, October 17th 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Cathedral Church. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will follow in Orange Grove Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday night with Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
