Judith Lynn Landry

August 7, 1934 — November 10, 2023

A time of gathering for family and friends will begin at 10:00AM Friday, November 17th, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St., Lake Charles, LA, 70605. A Rosary will be recited at 12:30PM by the Alter Society of St. Margaret Catholic Church, with the Catholic Christian Burial service to follow at 1:00PM, all at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Consolata Cemetery.

Judy, or “Granny” as her family knew her, was always very proud of her children’s accomplishments and supported them in all of their activities. As her family grew, her pride in the achievements of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was apparent as she was always quick to give words of support and encouragement.

Judy’s impact on the lives of those around her was evident because of her strong faith and self-less generosity. In 1992, Judy was presented with the Bronze Pelican Award by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting in recognition of her influence in the spiritual formation of Catholic Youth. She also served as the Boy Scouts’ Publicity Chairperson for three parishes and undertook the task of publicizing the cookbook, Not By Bread Alone, all in service of the Catholic Church. Judy dedicated her time to her church by acting as a relief secretary with the St. Patrick Pastoral Care office and, after completion of her training as a Lay Eucharistic Minister in 1993, Judy provided comfort to patients at local hospitals through ministry as a Lay Pastoral Visitor.

In her free time, Judy enjoyed her many crafting hobbies such as sewing, painting, writing, quilting, making greeting cards, creating flower arrangements and decorating cakes. These talents were part of her ministry to others as she often donated items or her crafting expertise in support of the church and the many organizations, that she
volunteered for. Some noteworthy examples of this were the flower arrangements she donated to the Dauterive Hospital gift shop, the 1991 Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church Calendar that she co-chaired the creation of, the church Christmas bows she helped create for the purpose of spreading cheer, and the design and creation of the military flags that decorated the church in honor of our service members. In her later years, Judy generously gifted many of her treasured creations to her friends and family.

Judith Landry will be greatly missed by all for her generosity, humor, and her ability to be a constant source of encouragement to those she loved.

Judith was preceded in death by her parents; and sister; Joyce Loupe.
