June Marie Johnson Broussard, 86, of Lake Charles, LA (after living in Carlyss for over forty years) passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Broussard was born July 30, 1935 in Port Barre, LA. She was a graduate of St. Charles Academy and McNeese State University with her bachelor’s degree and was just short of earning her Master’s degree. She worked as a kindergarten teacher, beginning her career and retiring from Westwood Elementary School. Throughout her career, she also worked at J.I. Watson in Iowa and D.S. Perkins Elementary School. Mrs. Broussard was a very active member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, where she ran the religious artifacts store. More recently, she was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was a member of the Lady’s Altar Society at both churches, the Red Hat Society, 12th Night Revelers and the Nifty-fifty’s Dance group. She enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady at West Cal-Cam Hospital. She was always a social butterfly and loved to spend time with her friends and family. She also enjoyed crafting and loved to make stained glass, calling her creations ‘June’s Reflective Images’.
Mrs. Broussard is survived by her daughter, Pamela Ann Wyatt of Moss Bluff; sons, Gregory Scott Broussard of Westlake, LA and Michael Anthony Broussard of Lake Charles; friend, Ron McGinley; grandchildren, Joshua Wyatt and Cory Wyatt and wife Hailey; and great-grandchildren, Kamden and Brynlee Wyatt.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, Robert Arlen Broussard; parents, Bert and Ione Carriere Johnson; and sons, Keith and Kenneth Broussard.
Her funeral service will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, August 13, 2021 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Rojo Koonathan will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 1:30 PM until the start of the service, with a rosary at 2:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice or have a Mass said in her memory.
