June Rose Moss Clarke

June 23, 1932 — May 2, 2022

June Rose Moss Clarke, 89 years old, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022. She was born on June 23, 1932 to William C. and Lona Mae Moss in Converse, LA.

June Rose grew up in Sulphur, LA. As the only daughter of four children, she was a Daddy’s girl and inherited her love for sports from him. She was an avid fan her entire life; especially for McNeese, LSU and the New Orleans Saints.

She graduated from Sulphur High School in 1950, where she was a member of the drill team and the Executive Board of the Future Homemakers of America. While in school she developed lifelong friends whom she continued to get together with until her passing. She was always so proud to be a Sulphur Tor.

June graduated from McNeese State University in 2004, after taking a 50 year hiatus from her last semester in 1954 to raise her family. She and Billy loved supporting McNeese through numerous activities and foundations. She was a charter member of the Lake Charles Racquet Club where she played tennis well into her 70’s. She was a member of the McNeese State University Alumni Association, and a founding member of the McNeese State University Scholarship Foundation.

June and Billy traveled extensively and loved making memories around the world, and passed that love to their children. She was an active member of Heritage Baptist Church, where she dearly loved her ladies bible study group. One of her greatest joys in life was raising her children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories for all.

Those left to cherish her memory are, her daughters, Melony Cimprich (Richard) of Pearland, TX, Susan Ross (Art) of Mons, Belgium, Laura Gutierrez (Mike) of Friendswood, TX; her son, S. Curtis Clarke of Austin, TX; her brothers, Tom Moss (Gail) of Huntsville, TX, and Oliver “Jinks” Moss (Patricia) of Hondo, TX; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. T. “Billy” Clarke; her parents, her brother, Billy Curtis Moss and her son, Michael Tibbs Clarke.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 9, 2022 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel. Pastor Charles Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, May 9, 2022 from 9:30 until the start of the service at 11:00 AM. Pallbearers will be Lance Chapman, Quinn Clarke, Skeat Clarke, Timothy Clarke, William Gutierrez and Garrett McClelland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McNeese State University Scholarship Foundation.
