Karen Jinks, 81 of Lake Charles, Louisiana passed away on March 15, 2018 surrounded by her family.
She found her home in Lake Charles, Louisiana from her birthplace in Newkirk, Oklahoma where she was born on May 4th, 1936 to Vera Speer. She graduated from Lagrange High school in 1954 and went on to attend college at USL in Lafayette, Louisiana. She returned to Lake Charles, Louisiana and started her family shortly after.
She was a homemaker and artist; known in the craft community for her elaborate creations that were unparalleled. While crafting and creating were her passions, nothing brought her joy quite like her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She spent her days worrying about and reaching out to each and every one of them. She was a loving, generous, hilarious woman whom will be missed by all that had the pleasure of meeting her.
She leaves behind her dedicated and loving husband of 62 years, Norman Jinks Jr. and caring brother, Dr. John Speer, her children, Keith Jinks (Donna), Shawn Parks (Kenneth), Kristi Fontenot (Ray), Nicole Duplechin (Scott), her grandchildren (who will forever argue over which one was their grandmother’s favorite), Erin Dronett, Eric Jinks, Taylor Jinks, Donavan Domingue, Josh Parks, Sarah Parks, Dustin Fontenot, Laci Fontenot, Courtney King, and Alex Duplechin, and lastly, her 21 great-grandchildren and the one on the way.
Her family will forever cherish the many memories made with her and will never forget her undoubtedly irreplaceable spirit.
This prayer was prayed in the Jinks’ home every night:
“The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalms 23
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Turner and Anna Landry N.P. for their care and compassion while caring for our mother.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 19, 2018 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John Robert Black will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will resume on Monday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
