Karla Schmidt Mason

Karla Renee Schmidt Mason, 46, of Chappell Hill, TX, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 in Colorado Springs, CO.

Karla was born July 16, 1971 in Lake Charles, LA, where she graduated from LaGrange High School and McNeese State University with her degrees in Criminal Justice, Psychology and as a Paralegal. She previously worked for Walker Properties before moving to Texas almost twenty years ago. She lived in various communities, including the Houston and Lake Charles areas, before settling in Chappell Hill four years ago. Karla attended First Baptist Church of Brenham, TX. She had a great love for her children and her animals, especially her horses. Karla was a Breast Cancer Survivor and had a dedicated work ethic, a great sense of humor and will always be remembered for her beautiful smile.

Karla is survived by her husband of seventeen years, Michael Mason of Chappell Hill, TX; children, Matthew Steven Mason and Sydney Renee Mason; mother, Ruth LeJeune Schmidt of Kinder, LA; brothers, Mark Ferriss and wife Iris of Kinder, LA, Danny Ferriss and wife Erica of Sulphur, LA, and Scotty Hazelton of LeBleu Settlement; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Schmidt.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Very Reverend Anthony Fontenot will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. A gathering of family members and friends will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.

She will also have a memorial service at 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the First Baptist Church Brenham, TX.
