Katharine B. Barbier

November 8, 1928 — January 3, 2022

Katharine Lassiter Butte Barbier, 93, passed away on January 3, 2022, surrounded by her family.  Katharine was born on November 8, 1928, in Lincolnton, North Carolina, to her late parents, I. Harding Butte and Roberta Sutton Crews Butte. 

Katharine’s early education was in Asheville, N. C. She attended Highland Park Junior High in Highland Park, TX. She was a graduate of Nacogdoches High School in 1946, attended Texas State College for Women (now Texas Women’s University) in Denton, TX and graduated in fine arts from the University of Texas, Austin, TX in 1950. Katharine is also an alumna of the Iota Chapter of Chi Omega Sorority. 

Katharine was a Charter Member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Sulphur, LA, former President of the Women’s Auxiliary of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and Sunday School teacher. She was a charter member of the Sulphur league of Delphi Great Books Study Group, former member of the Sulphur Garden Club, former Member of the Sulphur Lioness Club, the first President of the Women’s Auxiliary at Bayou Oaks Country Club, Sulphur, LA, former member and officer in the Hollywood Community Educators, and a member and editor of the Newsletter of the Contraband Heirloom Stitcher’s Guild.   Katharine worked three years in the payroll department at Cit-Con refinery, former substitute teacher in Calcasieu Parish Schools, proprietor of Barbier’s Bazaar gift shop Sulphur, worked 14 years for Braun Welding Supply Company in Lake Charles, LA, and was a Mary Kay Cosmetic Consultant for 15 years.  Katharine was a member of Mardi Gras Krewe de la Bon Vie and Krewe de la Noblesse.

Katharine is survived by her children, Roberta “Robbie” Harding Barbier Guillory (Mrs. S. P. Guillory, Sr), George “Tony” Frank Anthony Barbier III, Katharine “Katsie” Marie Barbier Fanelli, Desiree Suzanne Barbier and Matthew John Barbier and wife, Debrah LeBrun Barbier; her grandchildren, S. Patrick Guillory, Jr., Nili K. Guillory Stewart, Joanna B. Guillory Menard, Desiree D. Richards, Rebecca B. Casteel and Kaitlyn N. Martin; great grandchildren, Eliana K. Stewart, Talia E. Stewart, Zion B. Stewart, Grace R. F. Stewart, Hosanna D. J. Stewart, Asher S. V. Stewart. Bethania J. S. Stewart, Moriah K. D. Stewart, Gilead W. G. Stewart, Chad B. Menard, Jr., Alexis B. Menard, Baylie A. Menard, Krash D. Menard, Ashlyn P. Menard, Eliza N. Guillory, Graham E. Guillory, Brielle E. Richards, Franchesca M. Casteel, Faith O. Casteel, Arabella M. Vincent, Shane A. Martin; her sister, Mildred “Mickey” Harding Butte Giles (Mrs. Dan Giles) of Nacogdoches, Texas; and her nephew, Mark D. Giles and W. Crews Giles of Texas.  She was preceded in death by her husband, George Frank Barbier, Jr.

A private burial will be held for family.
