Katherine Backlund

Katherine Renee Backlund, 64, of Dry Creek and formerly from Hackberry passed away on September 30, 2023, in a local hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Katherine was born on June 30, 1959, in Lake Charles, LA to Edwin and Naomi Penny. Katherine enjoyed being around family and friends along with supporting the 4H and agriculture programs in Southwest Louisiana that promoted kids showing livestock. She was a teacher at Hackberry High School for 25 years working for the Cameron Parish School Board where she loved all whom she had the privilege of teaching. Katherine loved raising her cattle and enjoying the outdoors. One of her proudest moments in life was her children; although her children were adopted, her love knew no boundaries. Katherine was a graduate of Hackberry High School and McNeese State University. Her life was full of passion for all that knew her.

Those left to cherish her sweet memory are her two children, Kayla Moore and husband Shaun and Jeb Backlund; two grandchildren, John and Lucas Moore; one sister, Tonia Nolan and husband Randy; brother in laws, David Backlund and wife Ginger, Michael Backlund and wife Evelyn, and Frank Backlund.

She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, John Backlund; two grandchildren, Kendall and Isabelle Moore; one niece, Lacye Nolan; and one nephew, Ryan Backlund.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Linton officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of service at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The burial will be at Hackberry Community Cemetery.
