Katherine Gail Fontenot Newman

Katherine Gail Fontenot Newman, a loving and selfless mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother, born December 22, 1960, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, January 13, 2024. On that day, she was surrounded by the family she had tirelessly dedicated her life to.

This strong, one-of-a-kind woman had an angel heart that will be missed by everyone who knew her. If you were hungry, she fed you. If you were sick, she cared for you. If you were sad, she comforted you. May her crown of jewels shine with a blinding light as she awaits us in her new heavenly home.

Katherine was welcomed into the arms of the family that proceeded her in death . Among them were her son, Michael Paul Fontenot, her father, Qulice Paul Fontenot, mother, Eva LaVergne Guillory, her husband, Michael Newman, her sister and brothers: Genieve Marie Fontenot, Timothy Wayne Fontenot, and Michael James Fontenot. Without a doubt, her sons-in-law (Derick Burnett and Christopher Perry), as well as her brother-in-law Marcus Johnson, were also there to welcome her.

She is survived by her son, David  Wayne Fontenot (Leslie) and two daughters Jessica Lynn Fontenot, Eva Marie Burnett (partner Kasey Romero), her adopted by love daughter Kendra Smith, and sister, Carolyn Johnson (children Geni Fontenot, Joey Kilgore, Natty Bennett, niece Brandi Ramaur). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tyler Badgett (partner Emily Clark), Rhiana Fontenot, Alexa Mayeux and spouse, Michael Perry, William Perry, Ethan Burnett, Jace Burnett along with her former daughter-in-law & spouse Carolyn and John Richard. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren and numerous “found family”.

Her funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 18, 2024 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 PM until the start of the service at 6:00 PM. Cremation under the care of Johnson Funeral Home to follow.
