Kathleen “Kathy” Melancon, 97, of Lake Charles passed away at 4:22 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2022 in her residence.

Mrs. Melancon was born on March 18, 1925 in Fort Worth, TX where she was raised and resided until moving to Lake Charles in the early 1950’s.  She was a life time member of the VFW Axilliary and also belonged to the American Legion Post #1.  She was baptized at Our Lady Queen of Heaven under Monsignor DeBlanc and was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church.

Her passion in life was music and she enjoyed singing and playing the drums.  She also took pleasure in shopping.  Mrs. Melancon lived life to the fullest and it was obvious that she loved life.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of more than 60 years, Ned G. Melancon of Lake Charles; niece, Suzanne Young Murphree (Dr. Paul Murphree) and their daughter, Alexa, of Georgia; and numerous cousins and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, EllieHue Elsa and Arminia Harvey; sisters, Vivian Young, Lottie Pearl Brown, and Eunice Chambers; and a brother, Lincoln Harvey.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel.  Father Nathan Long will officiate.  Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park.  Visitation will begin on Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM.  Visitation will resume on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her very special friends, Richard and Eloise Stutes and to caregivers, Theresa Johnson and Missie Blacklock for their dedicated care and loving compassion given to Mr. and Mrs. Melancon.  They would also like to thank Amedisys Hospice for the exceptional care given to Mrs. Melancon in her last days.
