Kathryn Ann "Kathy" Basden, 63, of Lake Charles, LA completed her earthly journey on Sunday, August 3, 2014 surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her son-in-law, James Burt's home. Kathy was born March 4, 1951 in Sheffield, AL and lived in Tuscumbia, AL. She spent most of her adult life in New Orleans and Lake Charles. Kathy attended both Cherokee High School and Deshler High School in Alabama. Kathy formerly worked at a famous restaurant in New Orleans, Pascal's Manale and more recently Young's Produce Market. She courageously faced the diagnosis of cancer with the comment, "I know when I fall asleep I will wake in the arms of Jesus." She loved to spend time on the river and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are her children, Kimberly Roland and James Burt and Kendrea Terrell and husband Barry all of Lake Charles; a son, Michael Pounders of Moss Bluff; sisters, Lynda Thorne and husband David, Sonya Guillory and husband Bobby, and Donna Akins all of Alabama; grandchildren, Chelsi Roland, Hunter, Trey, and Ty Terrell, Kendall and Kyle Metcalf-Pounders, and Jamie and Ashley Burt all of Lake Charles; 3 great grandsons; 8 nieces and nephews; and 8 great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, David Anthony Pounders; parents, Raymond and Elizabeth Basden; and her husband, Kenneth Wayne Roland. A gathering of family and friends will be at Johnson Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 with a service to begin at 1:00 PM. Pallbearers will be: Chance Nelson, James and Jimmy Burt, and Barry, Hunter, Trey, and Ty Terrell. Family and friends will gather at sunset at her favorite spot in the world, her property on the Calcasieu River for a celebration of her life.
